Dr. Cindy M. Melton 

Dr. Cindy M. Melton, Dean

Cindy Melton became the Dean for the School of Education in January 2017.  She earned her Bachelor's and Master's degree from Mississippi College in Education.  Her Ph.D. is from the University of Mississippi in Educational Leadership.  For the last sixteen years, she has been a full-time faculty member at MC.  Most recently she served as Chair for the Department of Teacher Education and Leadership, and has also served as Director of Field Experiences.  Before joining her alma mater full-time, she taught adjunct classes in the Departments of Psychology/Counseling and Kinesiology and worked as a classroom teacher.  She taught junior high and middle school in Hinds County Public Schools at Utica, and also taught at Eastside Elementary in Clinton Public School District where she was named Teacher of the Year and Metro-Jackson Outstanding Teacher.  After coming to MC, Dr. Melton  received the Outstanding Young Faculty Award.  

Around the state Dr. Melton serves as Chair of the Licensure Commission for the state of Mississippi, and is the President-elect of Mississippi Association of Colleges of Teacher Education.  Recently she has conducted professional presentations and workshops on legal, moral and ethical issues in the field of education, as well as data collection and planning for successful accreditation visits at KDP, TK20 and CAEP conferences in Calgary, Canada, Austin, Texas, and Washington D.C. 

Melton is originally from Batesville, MS, where she attended South Panola HS.  She lives just outside Clinton with her husband, Derek, also a Mississippi College graduate, and their two children.  The Meltons attend Pinelake Church in Clinton.
