Our Pre-Law Program is designed to provide students with a firm foundation in writing, critical thinking, and analysis, as well as an introduction to legal terminology, research methods, and procedure in preparation for success in law school. We offer a Comprehensive Major in Political Science with Pre-Legal Emphasis (B.S.) and a Comprehensive Major in History with Pre-Legal Emphasis (B.S.) as our foundation Pre-Law degrees. However, we welcome participation by all other majors in our program events.
In addition to the degree plans, we offer a Mock Trial program for students interested in participating in intercollegiate mock trial competition. Students may enroll for credit or may participate on a non-credit basis.
We enjoy an excellent relationship with the MC School of Law, with many of our Pre-Law graduates choosing to undertake their legal education at MC - the only law school located in the state capital. Other MC Pre-Law students have been admitted to a wide variety of law schools, including Harvard, Vanderbilt, Tulane, Wake Forest, Arizona State, Arkansas, Louisiana State, Memphis, and Ole Miss.
Comprehensive Pre-Legal Major in History or Political Science
The Department of History and Political Science offers a comprehensive pre-law major which allows students to earn a baccalaureate degree in either history or political science while selecting from a wide range of courses designed to provide the knowledge and skills development essential for success in law school.
Three-Three Curriculum in the Areas of History, Political Science, Administration of Justice, and Paralegal Studies
The Three-Three program offers qualified incoming freshmen the opportunity to complete their undergraduate and law degrees in six years rather than seven. Students choosing this option may earn an undergraduate degree in any of the academic programs noted immediately above. To be admitted to and remain in this program, students must score 26 or higher on their ACT and maintain a minimum 3.25 GPA. Acceptance into the 3/3 Program does not guarantee acceptance to Mississippi College School of Law.
Pre-Law Club
The M.C. Pre-Law Club meets biweekly to share information necessary to those students planning to attend Law School. The club frequently has guest speakers from law schools and the legal profession to answer questions the club members may have regarding law school or the profession.
Mock LSAT exams are sponsored by the club before each LSAT exam.
Phi Alpha Delta Legal Fraternity
MC hosts a chapter of the International Legal Fraternity Phi Alpha Delta. Students interested in going to law school may join this fraternity as an undergraduate and maintain their membership for life.
Mock Trial Team
The MC Mock Trial teams offers students an exciting opportunity to prepare for and participate in a simulated trial. The Team consists of roles as both witnesses and lawyers, and the students take these roles seriously! They work diligently to prepare for competition against each other undergraduate teams. Some of our students say "it is the best experience" that they have had during their stay at MC.
