Public Safety Dispatcher (part-time) - Office of Public Safety
Mississippi College is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Public Safety Dispatcher (part-time), Office of Public Safety. This is a non-sworn position.The Public Safety Dispatcher reports directly to the Director or Assistant Director of Public Safety.
Essential Responsibilities
- Receives calls concerning crimes, emergencies, and other requests for assistance; monitors and responds to calls from the University system, as well as from campus "Blue Light" emergency telephones.
- Monitors fire and burglar alarms and alarm systems for all university buildings.
- Broadcasts orders to public safety officers in vicinity to investigate complaint or request when appropriate; relays instructions or questions from patrol units.
- Assists with emergency alert paging in the event of a campus emergency.
- Relays radio and telephone messages between public safety officers and the campus community.
- Performs receptionist duties; responds to questions from walk-in and telephone traffic.
- Monitors the campus closed circuit camera systems.
- Performs various clerical duties including completing the electronic dispatch log and filing reports.
- Serves as Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Fully support the mission, vision, and values of Mississippi College.
- High school diploma, degree or University hours desirable but not required.
- Previous dispatch or public safety experience desired.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the specific duties of the position.
- Willingness to work evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday hours as needed.
- Submit to and successfully complete a background investigation.
