Shreve Bland Named Assistant Director at MC Career Services

Shreve Bland brings stellar communication skills, a caring heart, and unlimited energy to the Mississippi College Office of Career Services.

A 2020 MC kinesiology graduate, Shreve’s hit the ground running as the university’s new assistant career services director. It’s really a dream job for the Clinton resident to work daily with students.

Career Services Director Taylor Ormon is thrilled to welcome Bland aboard at the busy office in Nelson Hall. “Her passion for helping students achieve their goals and love for MC is exactly what this position needed,” she said. “I have no doubt that Shreve will bring new ideas and a fresh perspective to our office.”

The key staff post opens doors for Shreve to help students grow, professionally and personally, on their journey to thrive in the workplace. “One new goal we are working towards now is an internship program for Mississippi College and our students,” Bland said.

With millions of Americans receiving vaccines daily and COVID cases dramatically dropping, the pandemic beginning in March 2020 is winding down across the nation. That positive trend offers opportunities for MC’s two career services leaders to book in-person meetings with students this fall.

“I know that the Lord has a plan for the future of MC, and COVID is no match for His goodness and faithfulness,” Shreve Bland said.

There’s a part-time job and internship fair set for the fall and a major career fair with scores of employers meeting with job-seeking students in the spring of 2022.

While she assists students, Bland is advancing her career skills. She’s seeking a master’s degree in corporate communications and public relations at her alma mater.

Her passion for the Blue and Gold is well-documented. “One thing that makes MC unique is the community,” Shreve said. “There is not a day that goes by that I do not feel as though I belong and that I am loved.”

Her family is pumped about her arrival as a new MC staff member. She’s also achieved success as a graduate assistant in athletic communications on the Clinton campus.

MC Choctaws head football coach John Bland and his wife, Candis, are pretty familiar with the skills Shreve brings to her new role in Career Services.

"Shreve is a very hard worker, extremely organized, and takes pride in everything she does,” Coach Bland said.

“While in school, she was involved in multiple extracurricular activities. This has helped her develop leadership, build relationships and create a well-rounded resume. I know she is my daughter, but Mississippi College got a great one,” Coach Bland added.

A Clinton High graduate, Shreve is receiving a strong endorsement from Cindy Melton, dean of the MC School of Education.

“Shreve has a smile that will light up any room, a great work ethic, and a gift for helping others,” says Melton, an MC alumna. “She brings wonderful energy and creative spirit to this position and will join an amazing team in Career Services.”
