Prospective Students, Parents Learn What the MC Experience Is About During Spring Preview Day
Hundreds of high school juniors and seniors, potential transfer students, and their family members from across the Southeast will descend upon the Mississippi College campus on Saturday, March 4, to find out why the Christian University is becoming a preferred destination for those who wish to discover the person God created them to be.
During Spring Preview Day, participants will hear from MC President Dr. Blake Thompson and other award-winning faculty, interact with current students, attend a mock class, tailgate on the Quad, and learn about life at the state’s oldest institution of higher learning.
Angie Hardin, director of admissions and enrollment operations, said students can learn all about MC by looking online, but they won’t get a complete picture about what the University has to offer until they set foot on campus.
“It is proven that if we can get students to our campus, they are more likely to choose to make MC their home,” Hardin said. “Our goal is for students and their families to experience an incredible atmosphere while they are here.
“Since our vision at MC is academic excellence and commitment to the cause of Christ, we try to incorporate some touches of both throughout the day so guests can leave knowing this is our purpose. We also want students to experience a little of what student life would be like for them as a student at MC.”
The strategy worked for Camryn Bruce. The senior English major from Munford, Tennessee, found her University home when she attended MC’s Preview Day while in high school.
“Preview Day allowed me to see the University’s vision statement in action – in the events of the day, in the people I met, and in the conversations I shared with them,” Bruce said. “I was then able to visualize myself in a place where this vision is fulfilled daily.
“Preview Day was a wonderful moment where I realized that MC was everything that everyone had told me and was a place where I could realize this more fully as a student someday.”
Check-in will begin at 8:30 a.m. on the Caf patio, and an “Academic Marketplace” will be set up in Anderson Hall. Preview Day will kick off at 9 a.m. with a welcome from the president. School deans will speak, and a panel of students will field questions from attendees. Members of MC’s student recruiting organization – called Scouts – will host tours of the Clinton campus.
Representatives of on-campus student organizations will tell prospective students about the new adventures that await them at MC. Parents will have an opportunity to obtain financial aid information while students attend mock classes.
The day’s activities will culminate with a tailgate on the Quad and a tour of MC’s state-of-the-art cadaver lab. Best of all, prospective students will get to mingle with others who are considering making MC their university home.
“Each year, Preview Days at MC are some of our largest recruiting events,” Hardin said. “The feedback we receive from students who have attended a Preview Day is overwhelmingly positive. We hear stories from current students who chose to enroll at MC simply because of their experience at one of our Preview Days.
“Getting to meet so many families that we can invest in and hopefully persuade to become MC families is my favorite part of the day. If a student wants to receive an overall view of life as a student at MC, then coming to Preview Day is the best way to have that experience.”
